Rules

The Chickadee Hockey League will be following a majority of the National Hockey League rulebook along with additions that were agreed upon by league management.

Forfeits/Make up's

Effective Immediately:

  • Last-Minute Cancellations: Any team that cancels a scheduled game within 48 hours of the start time will automatically forfeit the match.

  • Score Recording: The forfeiting team will be recorded as a 0–3 loss, and the opposing team will be awarded a 3–0 win.

  • Repeat Offenses: Teams that forfeit more than twice in a season due to last-minute cancellations may face additional penalties, including:

    • Suspension from playoff eligibility

    • Future participation in the league

  • Exceptions: Only cancellations due to verified emergencies (e.g., facility closure, extreme weather) may be exempt, subject to league review. 

I will do my best to work with everyone with reschedules but we are now being charged for ice times not cancelled within 48 hours.

Penalties

The Chickadee Hockey League has a NO TOLERANCE fighting policy. 

With the ability to view camera footage from every game the Chickadee Hockey League will go over any incident that occurs during league sanctioned events. This allows League Management to review and proceed with punishment, suspensions, etc for these incidents if they were to occur.

Minor Penalties - 2:00 in length. 

Double Minor Penalties - 4:00 in length.

Major Penalties - 5:00 power play for opposing team + game misconduct for penalty taker.

Our officials will decide on severity of penalties in game. Please respect their decision as they try and do their best to officiate our games! Any issues with our officials we would love to hear from you so we can address any situation that arrises. 

Gameplay

Along with following NHL® rules the Chickadee Hockey League will play league sanctioned games with this format:

  • Three (3) periods / First two (2) periods will be 14:00 run time (Last 2 minutes of first & second period will be stop time).
  • Third period will be 14:00 stop time.
  • If tied following regulation, games will go into a 5:00 3v3 NHL style overtime. 
  • If tied following the overtime period the game will play an NHL style shootout.
